To: UK Members of the European Parliament (apart from UKIP)

Hello other EU countries - please don't abandon us! 16 million voted to stay in!

Urgently contact EU colleagues to make sure other EU states do not decide to 'kick' the UK out of the EU at the European summit beginning on 28th June.

Why is this important?

The EU member states meet on Tuesday 28th June - Wednesday 29th June to discuss Britain's vote to leave the European Union. Technically, no member state can leave until it asks for the EU to put in place Article 50. Those who campaigned to Leave now say there is no rush to do that. But, the other states may try to get around that - there is no precedent for triggering Article 50 so expect the unexpected.

If we are just 'dropped' there will be massive problems for many of us. Expect enormous job losses, rapidly rising food prices and life in general getting much more difficult.

Following the vote to leave the EU, the UK is already in a period of great uncertainty. Our economy is in turmoil, vast numbers of jobs are threatened and Scotland may in time win a second referendum on independence and Northern Ireland's peace process may fall apart. In short, based on what we've seen since Friday morning - it's not looking great!

Much may happen in the next twelve months - not least a second referendum. The worst thing that could happen would be for us to be swiftly booted out.
