KEEP 'HORROR MASKS' OUT OF MENTAL HEALTH NURSES TRAINING

I want Professors Ian Murray and Inga Heyman to immediately stop the use of 'hollywood masks' in teaching young nurses how to care for people with mental health issues! This is their link - http://www.Rgu.Ac.Uk/news/hollywood-silicone-masks-bring-interactive-nursing-to-life-at-rgu.

Why is this important?

It has taken decades of hard work by agencies such as Mind, Mencap, let's respect and each and every individual with mental health issues, to be seen as 'normal everyday people - like you, or me, or the person standing next to you on the train, at the bus stop ,at work ,at school, in your local store, your sports team. All RGU has done is to stereotype those individuals - by using these hideous masks. They may as well have hung placards 'lunatic', 'mad' or 'nutter' around their necks. For a place of learning such as RGU - you should be utterly ashamed of this - it amounts to stigmatising and stereotyping and backward and ignorant thinking. Let's stop them. Now. Before a whole tranche of students think that people with mental health issues have to look like these masks.

I ask that you post your thoughts on their Facebook page under 'your feedback.'
