Keep Old Heath & Hythe in Colchester Constituency

The Boundary Commission is proposing to move Old Heath and the Hythe out of the Colchester Constituency and into Harwich and North Essex Constituency.
This means that Old Heath and the Hythe would have a different MP than the rest of Colchester.
We only have until December 5th to keep the historic areas of Old Heath and the Hythe represented by a Colchester MP, please sign this petition if you agree that these are vital parts of Colchester.

You can also register your objection on the Boundary Commission website https://www.bcereviews.org.uk/

Why is this important?

How does it make sense for Old Heath and the Hythe to be put in with Harwich & North Essex, which are almost entirely made up of rural areas? The only urban part is Harwich, 20 miles away. Local residents in Old Heath and the Hythe have very different needs and little in common with Harwich & North Essex constituency. They have strong connections and shared facilities with New Town and the rest of Colchester.

A rural MP representing a small section of central Colchester in the far corner of their constituency would not understand it fully or give it the attention it needs.

Old Heath is barely a mile away from the Town Hall, it is one of the most important historic areas in the history of Colchester and central to its identity. The city owes its existence to the port at the Hythe that enabled it to flourish from Roman times up to just a few years ago. Our historic industries like Paxmans were in Old Heath, and the Hythe is currently central to Colchester's regeneration plans. It's an area that affects every resident of Colchester in some way and should be represented by the same MP as the rest of the urban centre of the city.
