Keep our Children Safe - Extra footpaths around Forncett St Peter Primary School

Due to the increased numbers of children attending Forncett St Peter Primary school, the impact of safety when arriving and leaving the school has become a priority. There are insufficient footpaths for the children to walk along to reach the school which means that parents and children are forced to walk in the road on the outside of parked cars and into the path of oncoming traffic. This makes walking to and from school excessively dangerous and the two way traffic starts to bottle neck and creates many frustrated drivers who then speed through the narrow lane, putting more lives at risk. The solution is an extension of the footpaths at either end of the school which allows parents and children to walk safely from the school to their parked cars.

Why is this important?

It is feared that an accident resulting in a fatality of a child is imminent. Many of the parents are forced to walk their children, some just toddlers in the path of oncoming traffic as there are no footpaths. They have no alternative but to walk around the already parked cars along a narrow stretch of road to reach the school. As the traffic is reduced to one lane for the two way traffic, this means that the cars are just sometimes centimetres away from the walking children. It is perilous and very scary. Action is needed urgently.
