LAUGHABLE CHRISTMAS BONUS OF £10

For at least 45 years the annual Christmas Bonus for disabled people, pensioners and those in receipt of other qualifying benefits, has remained at £10.

This laughable amount will not cover much of anything, especially under the current energy and cost of living crises. One would hope a Christmas Bonus such as this would increase in line with other benefits increases, perhaps even with the cost of inflation.

Why is this important?

Living on any benefit means that many people, including families, are struggling. The choice between heating or eating is unacceptable in today’s UK. Being housed, warm, clothed and fed should not be a lottery: at a minimum it should be the norm. To then give this meagre amount is not much use to those who receive it.

Bonus suggests extra, a treat: not a couple of loaves of bread with a few bottles of milk.

So come on, Mr Stride, do the honourable (as your title implies) thing and raise this Christmas Bonus to the 21st Century.
