Lewes Remembrance events to include all expressions of Commemoration

Lewes Town Council participates in Ceremonies of Remembrance on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday. These should include expressions of Commemoration from all parts of the community. A wreath of white poppies would show that commemoration of all victims of all wars is included, and that finding ways to avoid armed conflict is of great importance to residents of the town.

Why is this important?

Remembrance takes many forms, and comes from different view points. The role of the Town Council is to represent the residents' variety of views.

For the past 2 years, white poppy wreaths have been laid on the War Memorial in respectful Remembrance ceremonies only to find that they have been disrespectfully removed.

We ask the Town Council to include a white poppy wreath in it's civic ceremony, and by doing so show that Commemoration includes all types of Remembrance.
