Make Social Services the 4th Emergency Service
Following the tragic death of 6 year old Arthur Labinjo-Hughes it has opened the hearts and eyes of many.
Unfortunately our Social Services are severely understaffed and underfunded and this recent tragedy only confirms that more needs to be done to protect our Children.
In a statement made by Ex-children’s minister Tim Loughton who said “we” all have a “duty” to make sure other vulnerable children are not let down by social care in the same way as Arthur, whose body was found to be covered in 130 bruises following his death.
Funding for children’s social care has lagged behind and social workers are overstretched and undervalued, when in truth they should be revered as our fourth emergency service,” the Tory MP wrote in The Sun.
I wholeheartedly agree with this statement and so will many others. Our Social services should become the 4th Emergency service, we need to learn from the mistakes made by increasing our safeguarding measures and invest in the right people and facilities that can make a difference.
Our Children are the future of this planet and more needs to be done to ensure that innocent children do not suffer at the hands of the people who are supposed to love and care for them.

Why is this important?
We don't know exactly how many children in the UK experience child abuse. Child abuse is usually hidden from view. Adults in the child’s life may not recognise the signs that they are being abused and the child may be too young, too scared or too ashamed to tell anyone what is happening to them.
By making our Social Services the 4th Emergency service and increasing funding, we could save many more children from abusive and hostile environments and prevent further tragedies from occurring.
