Members of Parliament and Government should not receive gifts
Update MPs' Code of Conduct for them to refuse any gift offered. If MPs then register a gift, they should have to justify it.
Why is this important?
Most ordinary people don't get given gifts. In many professions (Civil Service, social workers, carers, Local Authority officers, LA Councillors, Doctors, Lawyers, Police) it is allowed to receive gifts. We are so used to 'sleaze' allegations where MPs and members of Government receive clothes, football tickets, holidays, etc) we take it for granted that MPs are entitled to receive gifts as long as they are registered properly. In order to clean up the image of politicians, MPs should be like the rest of us and not be allowed to receive gifts of any kind.
