Protect birds of prey from the Moorland Association
Stop funding Natural England who are conspiring with the Moorland Association to remove hen harriers and other raptors from grouse moors. This birds are already illeagally persecuted and killed by game keepers on grouse moor estates. It is outrageous that public money from Natural England - supposedly a 'Conservation Watchdog ' is giving millions of pounds of UK tax payers money to these estates in the form of grants for 'environmental stuardship'.
Why is this important?
I do not want my hard earned tax revenue being used to strip the countryside of its natural fauna for the benefit of a few rich people who want to shoot game birds. I was unaware that this was happening (as I'm sure most other tax payers are) until I read an article in the Sunday Times today. Apparently, Natural England (really?) paid such estates 17 million pounds in 1212-13. This is NOT an approriate use of public money and must be stopped.
Support this capaign and Chris Packham to end this outrageous misuse of OUR MONEY by an organisation which is supposed to protect the countryside.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is also involved in a plan to effectively remove theses species from grouse moor areas by stripping their nests of eggs, hatching them the re-locating them to non grouse shoot areas.
Again, is this an appropriate use of OUR MONEY to subsidise a passtime of the rich?
