Protect lodgers' deposits and privacy

By signing this petition, we request that:

1. Landlords must inform lodgers before installing camera and surveillance equipment.
2. Landlords should place lodgers' deposits in protected schemes. Checking in and out should be standardised process.
3. Landlords should give lodgers privacy when they are sleeping, showering, and bathing to avoid harassment.

Why is this important?

With rent prices soaring across the UK, more and more renters are resorting to alternative living arrangements like living with landlords.

When you live with a landlord, you have very little rights or protections as a lodger. Landlords can freely find legal loopholes and abuse the system, withholding lodgers' deposits and evicting you with as little as 7 days' notice for practically any reason.

My landlord installed cameras around the house without my knowledge and consent, then evicted me after I asked for privacy at home. They threatened to withhold half of a £1200 deposit, even after signing that there were no damages upon checkout. Everyone renting in the UK deserves basic legal protections.
