Pumpherston Is Saying Stop Over Development
Our small village is steeped in history, its not picture perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it lives and breathes its working class roots, it's heritage and character - it's our village and it's home!
We hope WLC will reject an application submitted by Wallace Land Management to build 270 houses in the first phase of a 1200 house build on land already identified on the new Local Development Plan as Greenbelt and not zoned for housing development
Our village has already been zoned for new builds and we could be faced with circa 3000 houses surrounding us on all sides, which will triple our size.

Why is this important?
Pumpherston was the hub for the Shale Industry during the 1800's and continued it's industrial roots through to the late 1980's. Community spirit has always been strong and families who live here can proudly demonstrate generations of heritage - roots are strong and whether home or away people keep in touch and have the welfare of the current residents and the village always at heart.
We are trying to stop this development because we already face circa 2000 house being built on zoned land within the current Local Development Plan. The greenbelt corridor that we aiming to protect ensures our identity from the ever encroaching New Town that is Livingston - we do not want to be identified as a district of the town.
Many areas are facing housing development as the need for more homes increases, we accept that and already have zoned areas which will effectively double the size of the village without this build.
However, affluent areas have the resources to fight over development and protect their rural areas from high density housing with no supporting infrastructure. The well-off are not only protecting their areas from new homes, they are also pushing undesirable developments into poorer neighbourhoods.
Our voice has not be heard by Wallace Management in fact they almost mock our concerns. These are quotes from the 'Settlement and Local Character Appraisal' document which forms part of the application submitted by Geddes Consultancy on behalf of Wallace Land Management.
"The community grew in the 1950's and from 1960 onwards became part of the establishment and then growth of the Livingston New Town"
"the locality of Pumpherston is wholly within the Livingston Area settlement boundary"
"Pumpherston has been an integral part of Livingston New Town from its beginning"
"following the development of Craigshill and Houstoun Industrial Estate in the 1960's and 1970's Livingston conjoined with Pumpherston and Uphall Station as a coalesced settlement"
"Through the development of the New Town, Pumpherston has become part of the Livingston Area"
"At the public consultation event, the strong sense of community within Pumpherston was evident. Locals retain a village identity. In planning terms, it is a locality within the Livingston Settlement Boundary"
We ask you to support us and sign the petition!
Support us because we are not rich householders looking to protect house values or a picture perfect view...we are that poor neighbourhood with limited resources who are trying to fight back
Support us because you value community spirit
Support us because you value the environment
Support us because you oppose bully boy companies that think only of the bottom line and not the damage they will inflict on a small community.
Thank you
