To: Boris Johnson, dog-owner
Remove VAT charges on Veterinary Medicine.
Having been a dog-owner for many years, I have been lucky that the majority of them have been healthy and required minimal or no medicines or treatment. Recently though, my beautiful, 10-year-old rescued Greyhound has developed a medical problem and is now in need of regular medication for the foreseeable future. I was horrified to learn that VAT is payable on her medicine and cannot understand why this is. I am a disabled pensioner with long-term health problems of my own, so am very unhappy about this unfair added burden on my finances. As a rescued-dog-owner yourself Mr Johnson, I would like you to do something about this, and ease the burden of having a sick animal for the millions of people in the UK who rely on them for companionship.
Why is this important?
Having to pay VAT on medicines for your sick animal and friend, is outrageous. There are many other products that do not attract VAT because they are necessities, e.g. food and female sanitary products, and rightly so. But medicines for your sick pet is also a necessity, and why I believe this additional levy on pet owners should be removed.
