Require taxi services in London to go green
Transport for London should require all taxi services in London to offset carbon usage, hopefully pushing Black Cabs and Uber drivers towards electric and hybrid vehicles.
Why is this important?
London is one of the most polluted cities in the world, pollution limits set by the EU are consistently broken by many London boroughs.
Black Cabs and Uber drivers form a good majority of the traffic in London and are regulated by the TfL. New buses are electric, so why are our taxi services still polluting London's streets?
This is important not only for air pollution in London, but for climate change as a whole - transport is the second largest contributor to carbon emissions in the UK, producing one fifth of our total carbon emissions.
It's time our government did more to protect the world we want to live in.
