Why is this important?
Petition to Royal Mail, Ofcom and our local MP
Since the closure of our local Royal Mail sorting office, residents across E7 have experienced serious and persistent disruption to postal deliveries.
This is not simply an inconvenience. Delayed post can affect:
- Hospital appointments and medical correspondence
- Banking and financial documents
- Legal and government communications
- Business operations
- Everyday bills and household administration
The Universal Service Obligation exists to ensure that communities receive a dependable postal service. Residents should not have to travel to a sorting office to collect mail that should have been delivered to their homes.
We therefore call upon Royal Mail, Ofcom and our elected representatives to:
- Investigate the causes of ongoing postal delays in our area.
- Publish clear information about service levels and staffing arrangements affecting local deliveries.
- Implement urgent measures to restore a regular and reliable delivery service.
- Provide a timetable for resolving the current problems and improving performance.
Our community deserves a postal service that people can depend upon. We urge Royal Mail and the relevant authorities to take immediate action.

Many households report receiving letters only once a week or less. Some residents have gone for several weeks without receiving any post at all, only to receive large bundles of delayed mail at the same time. One local resident who had received no mail for three weeks visited the new sorting office and was handed 22 letters waiting for delivery to his address.
Residents have contacted Royal Mail repeatedly by telephone and email. In many cases they have received standard responses acknowledging delivery problems. However, despite the growing number of complaints, postal services in our area remain unreliable and inconsistent.
