Return the field at Kernick Industrial Estate to public use.
Stop renting the field to Sondica / Gary Wilkinson, and rebuild it as a community football field or park land.
Why is this important?
In the first lockdown of 2020, I was playing frisbee on this field with my five-year-old son. That morning, a contractor arrived and asked us to leave so that the field could be fenced off and used as a construction compound for the nearby student accommodation development.
I made enquiries at the time and was assured that the field would be returned to public use within six months.
My son turns twelve this month.
For more than half of his childhood, this field has remained closed to the community it was meant to serve.
I walk past it every day. I remember children playing football there, families walking their dogs, and people simply enjoying an open green space in the middle of our town. Instead, for years, residents have looked at fencing, rubble and an unfinished site. What was once a community asset has become a daily reminder of promises that were never kept.
Penryn has lost enough.
It is time to restore this field and return it to the people who should have been able to enjoy it all along.
I hope there is still time for me to have a kick-about there with my son.
