Roads, Footpaths and Lighting in Airdrie
The current state of the roads, footpaths and street lighting in Airdrie, as a direct result of neglect by North Lanarkshire Council, has now reached an atrocious level. The roads and footpaths are rarely, if ever swept clean. The road and pavement gullies are never emptied, despite many being reported as completely blocked for years. The routine maintenance program of years gone past, seems to have been abandoned.
Even though many of Airdrie’s streets have had new street lighting installed recently, some streets are now so badly lit, following the upgrade, they are now very dangerous to pedestrians and motorists alike.
Broomfield Street in Gartlea is an example of a serious accident just waiting to happen. The street is so poorly lit, that there have already been numerous vehicle collisions. Indeed there has, within the past few weeks, been a serious hit and run RTA.
Needless to say- no update from police- and still vehicles continue to park far too close to junctions, where passing vehicles have no option, but to be on the wrong side of the road. This particular road has for years, had surface water running on to it constantly, causing untold misery to traffic when it freezes. Moreover, the road surface is rapidly deteriorating and disintegrating as a direct consequence.

Why is this important?
In order to prevent further accidents and make the road safer for the many people who use this main route on a daily basis.
