Save our College!
Melton Mowbray is losing access to Further Education courses because , since being taken over by Brooksby Agricultural college, all courses have now been moved out of town to its rural site (apart from Drama courses). Post 16 students need the opportunity to improve their life chances by taking qualifications in a non-school setting but this is being made exceptionally difficult for people in Melton Mowbray unless they have transport to reach Brooksby college. The site of the college in Melton has all the facilities necessary to run a wide range of vocational and academic subjects but is being deliberately run down so that the site can be sold. Please consider the funding for Further Education to allow small colleges to continue to offer life changing courses for people of all ages and investigate how a large town like Melton Mowbray could potentially lose such a vital facility
Why is this important?
Melton Mowbray once had a thriving, busy College with a well equipped Leisure Centre, engineering workshops, hairdressing salon, commercial kitchen, nursery and numerous classrooms offering courses in pre-nursing, early years, electrical, automotive and mechanical engineering, welding, hairdressing, catering, GCSEs, A levels, admin and business studies as well as courses for students with special needs. Many of these courses have gone, never to return, and we are now in danger of losing the rest as Brooksby Melton College looks to move all courses, except Drama, to its Brooksby campus. Buses to Leicester don't tie in with course timings so this will mean all students needing their own transport out to Brooksby. And what will happen to the campus in Melton? We have already lost the leisure centre and now we could lose all the rest. Please sign this petition to ask the Education Minister to intervene and stop the loss of this important facility.
