SAY NO TO DESTRUCTION OF THE MANHOOD PENINSULA

Say no to destruction of the Manhood Peninsula, specifically against an appeal by Gladman developers for outline planning to build 150 houses on agricultural land, Main Road, Birdham - directly adjacent to the Chichester Harbour Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) - as well as objecting to their subsequent planning application for the same site.
Why is this important?
The last rural area between Portsmouth and Brighton, the Manhood Peninsula, is being destroyed by unsustainable housing.
A development of 150+ houses opposite Birdham Stores, directly adjacent to the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is currently going through an appeal process by the developers following non-determination of a planning application by Chichester District Council.
The Council has only contested the appeal on a limited number of grounds, and the final decision now lies in the hands of the Government’s Planning Inspectorate.
There has been significant local objection to this development. We believe the key issues are sewage, flood risk, traffic and safety issues, and the scale of the development which will impact on character and visual amenity of the AONB. These, and the position of the emerging local and Neighbourhood plans for the area have not been given due attention.
It is now up to the public and local residents of Birdham and the broader peninsula to take a last stand to try to stop this destruction.
The Birdham Village Residents Association (BVRA) has applied for and is now a Rule 6 objector at the Appeal. This allows BVRA to cross examine all evidence presented at the Appeal in September.
However, the developers are persistent. They have recently filed another planning application (exactly the same as the one under the appeal) for the same site!
Further, it is clear from the latest documents filed, that the developers control a significant amount of land adjacent to the Appeal site and we believe a larger area could be at risk from significant development in the future. It starts with 150 houses....but where could it end?
We need your help!
Please sign the petition to show your support for stopping the outline planning permission under appeal from being granted, objecting to the "new" application (for the same development as being considered under Appeal) and helping us stop the destruction of Birdham and the Manhood peninsula!
