Saying "No" to the over-development of Coton
The Issue
Coton has worked hard to house people over the last ten years and we have now reached capacity. There are current issues surrounding infrastructure and flooding.
For example:
For example:
- we still do not have 24/7 A and E and
- the road on Sandon Road can, on some occasions, resemble a mini lake.
- The building plans will make these problems worse. There are other current issues within our local community, which we are dealing with, that we do not need to be splashed over the national press.
Coton is a lovely area with a brilliant, kind, local community who work together, so we can see why people would want to join us but the prospect of 2000 additional homes will absolutely be over development
- destroying many of the elements that make Coton one of the best places to live in Staffordshire
- providing little new infrastructure to counter-act the potential growth in population – we currently need more infrastructure as it is
- we need protection from over-development
We ask that Stafford Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council, Stafford and Coton's Member of Parliament and statutory planning consultees think again and instead find a way of ensuring that development only happens in a positive way, in areas that have an abundance of paid employment and do not have a risk of flooding. We don’t have enough paid employment to occupy 2000 additional people – a lot of work gets done on a voluntary basis and overall, we don’t have the infrastructure now, let alone with an outpouring of more people. We request that sufficient cross-partner work is undertaken to look at the cumulative impact of any development and that any houses permitted are done on an equitable basis across the Borough with appropriate infrastructure to meet the growing requirements.
Unfortunately, the Coton area has now reached capacity.
Why is this important?
It is important because lives are at risk
