Sikhs are not Hindus and therefore do not believe in the hierarchical caste system
Parliament must take the word 'Sikh' out of explanatory notes and remove all references to the NIESR report.
The explanatory notes on Caste in the 2010 Equalities Act, ranked according to perceived scale of ritual purity are highly offensive to Sikhs and a distortion as there is no concept of ritual purity in any walk of Sikh life or in the Sikh religion.
The NIESR report on Caste is academically unsound and insulting to Sikh institutions.

Why is this important?
For Sikh institutions (Gurdwaras, Schools) and business owners this can mean that lawsuits and court cases can be easily tabled, simply by claiming discrimination based on caste. Moreover Sikh institutions will not have much of a defence if the law already wrongly believes that Sikhs adhere to a hierarchical caste system based on racial purity.
This will affect how Parliament perceives the belief system of the Sikhs. All the goodwill built up by Sikhs over the decades in the UK and abroad, in the form of championing equality etc can potentially be undone.
