Stand Up For Asylum Seekers

It is not illegal to flee danger. It is not illegal to seek sanctuary. It is not illegal to take risks to reunite with your loved ones.
This Government must stop misleading the public with dehumanising and false narratives. This may win votes but it will destroy the humanitarian fabric of this country.
The Government's proposed Nationality and Borders Bill cruelly criminalises refugees, denies the rights of all asylum seekers and makes it harder for families to be together.
It will create a two-tier system based on the journeys people make to get here, rather than their need for asylum. It's creating a "second-class" of refugee where if you take Afghanistan as an example, those fleeing over land and sea will be treated as though their lives matter less than those air lifted out by our Government, even if they are fleeing the same horror.
We call on you to make representations to the Home Secretary to amend these cruel and divisive proposals and instead support amendments being put forward that proudly protect people fleeing war and persecution including the right to work!

Why is this important?

In the UK there has always been a strong tradition of welcoming refugees. Examples from our history are many, including the Hugenots and those fleeing the Nazis.
We need to continue this tradition, not let it end with this Bill and ensure that every refugee is met with compassion and protection, regardless of the journey they take to the UK and that there are more safe routes to claim asylum.
