Stop Cowboy Builders
Dear MP's
I took on a builder to do an extension whom I was lead to believe was reputable turned out to be a cowboy. He left my home uninhabitable with live electrical wires dangerously exposed, rain water main drainage disconnected and many many other problems. I had to pay 50% more to rectify the works by another builder and make my home safe enough to be able to return.
I have been a victim of a cowboy builder that decided to walk away without any recourse with my hard earned money which took a lifetime to save.
I know I am one of many hundreds or thousands who loss money this way.
So I propose Javaid's Law
The law be passed to protect home owners of domestic dwellings from cowboy builders. Government to set up a body to register and hold 50% deposit of the value of the contract from the builder prior to start of works to cover the cost in the eventuality the builder decides to prematurely leave encomplete work. All builders to be regulated and licenced.
This would ensure the builder has a vested interest to complete the job.

Why is this important?
It's so common that it's transmitted on TV. Hundreds if not thousands have been victims to cowboy builders. Anyone can call them selves a builder it's time to put a stop to them walking away without recourse
