To: The public desire for honesty and fairness should convince all of our politicians.

Stop politicians accepting any free gifts

Parliament should accept that a vast number of people in these islands are of the opinions that any gift given to a politician other than Christmas, weddings, birthdays etc. is possibly being given and received to further the ambitions towards change or betterment in favour of the giver and not to aid and improve for the nation as a whole.

Therefore, Parliament should lay down firm rules about accepting gifts of any sort that would be seen by the citizens of the nation as being a bribe.

Declarations of any gift are just an attempt to give a ready answer regarding the gift.  “I have declared the gift of….” only proves that it has been declared. Why it was given and what could be the result of the success of the giver in their personal pursuit of betterment as the outcome.

Why is this important?

It is important that governments and individual politicians must be seen not to be taken advantage of by the gift of goods, money, event tickets, air fares paid, free use of private jets, holidays etc. and those politicians MUST be seen as being entirely trustworthy and honest. Not the case as things stand today.
