Stop welcoming far right racist and fascist groups to the Bridge Inn Rotherham.
Why is this important?
Rotherham has been blighted by a succession of 19 protests by the English Defence League and other racist groups over the last 2 years. Businesses have suffered as footfall in the town has been significantly reduced on protest days. The local community has been terrified to venture into the town centre and there has been a significant increase in the incidence of hate crimes in Rotherham as a direct result of the far right protests, culminating in the brutal murder of an 81 year old. As a town we have had enough but one of your pubs - the Bridge Inn is actively encouraging far right groups to return to Rotherham. Most recently on 26 March 2016 the Bridge Inn was the venue for the EDL's regional demonstration. whilst the rest of our town turned their backs on the EDL your pub opened its doors to them.
The Bridge Inn has a long tradition of being a community pub. Old Mill Brewery has owned the pub for 20 years, during which time it has continued to be a hub of the local community. That has now changed and the Bridge Inn is seen as a pub that welcomes racists and fascists.
The Bridge Inn is now regarded as a pariah amongst the Rotherham community and is being boycotted by many of its traditional customers.
Please make sure that your pub will no longer be a venue that welcomes racist/fascist groups and give an undertaking to the people of Rotherham that the scenes of 26 March, when the Bridge was an EDL protest venue, are never repeated.
