STOP THE CURRENT CAPITAL & CENTRIC CAR-PARK PROPOSALS

We call upon Huntingdonshire District Council's Cabinet to formally bring to an end the current Capital & Centric regeneration proposals involving the redevelopment of the Council car-park sites at the former Cattle Market in St Ives, Princes Street in Huntingdon and Tebbutts Road in St Neots, subject to the Council meeting its existing legal and contractual obligations and protecting the interests of local taxpayers.

We further ask Cabinet to confirm that these Council-owned sites will not be progressed for redevelopment under the current Capital & Centric programme, and that any future proposals for their use should only be considered through a new transparent process supported by a clear business case and meaningful engagement with residents, businesses and other affected stakeholders.

Why is this important?

Residents keep asking whether the current car-park schemes are now dead. At present there has been no formal Cabinet decision bringing them to an end.

An independent investigation will look at how we got here. But Cabinet does not need to wait for that investigation to decide whether the current proposals should continue.

The same request is being submitted to HDC through its official petition process. That process can take 90 days, so this independent petition gives residents an opportunity to make their views known now.

If HDC accepts and opens the official petition, we will publish the link and encourage supporters to sign that petition too.

Of course, Cabinet can answer the question at any time. If it formally stops the current schemes, this petition will have achieved its purpose.
