Stop the Introduction of Digital ID and Digital Tax Systems in the UK
We, the undersigned, oppose the introduction of Digital ID and digital tax systems in the United Kingdom.
Why is this important?
The introduction of Digital ID and digital tax systems would fundamentally reshape the relationship between citizens and the state. These proposals create a single point through which government and private organisations could access, analyse, and link vast amounts of personal information. In an era of constant cyber-attacks, data breaches, and weakening trust in public institutions, this is extraordinarily risky.
Centralising all our personal information in one digital identity creates a powerful tool that could easily be misused—by future governments, by private actors, or by those who breach the system. Once this infrastructure exists, the potential for surveillance, restriction of services, or abuse of power becomes real. We have already seen how fragile our national cyber defences are, and placing so much information in one place would make every citizen more vulnerable.
This is not a small, technical change. It affects personal freedom, privacy, autonomy, civil liberties, and the rights we are meant to be protected by under GDPR. It was not part of any democratic mandate, and millions of people have already expressed their opposition. Ignoring that would be a betrayal of democratic consent.
Why should other people join you in your campaign for change?
Everyone—regardless of politics—should care about the protection of their private data and their basic freedoms. This campaign is about ensuring that no government, present or future, can hold or control all of a person’s data in one place. It is about preventing a system that could be exploited, hacked, or misused in ways that would impact every single aspect of daily life.
Joining this campaign means standing up for:
- Freedom from unnecessary state control.
- Protection of personal data and privacy.
- A strong and secure country that is not an easy target for cyber-criminals or foreign actors.
- A democratic process where major national changes require genuine public consent, not quiet implementation.
- Safeguards against unelected, unaccountable private interests shaping national policy.
This campaign matters because once a Digital ID system is built, it cannot easily be undone. The time to act is before the infrastructure and legislation are in place.
People should join because this affects everyone. It crosses political lines, social divides, and generations. If we do not protect our rights now, we risk losing them in the future.
