Stop the redevelopment of Saffron Lane Athletics Track, Leicester

Leicester City Council have proposed that in the near future the infield of Saffron Lane Athletics Track will be redeveloped to incorporate a full sized football, rugby and American football pitch. This redevelopment will mean it will be no longer possible to hold athletics competitions which include field events and also make it extremely difficult for athletes who wish to practise these events to train. Events such as County Schools Championships as well as many other competitions will no longer be held. This will deny hundreds of athletes of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate in athletics particularly at competition level. There has been no confirmation from Leicester City Council as to when the stadium will be used by football, rugby and American football teams which also raises concerns that use of the track for runners will be also limited. Please support our campaign to stop this redevelopment and ensure that future generations of athletes will be able to enjoy the positive benefits the sport of track and FIELD athletics has to offer.
