Universities are the backbone of the U.K. the government must support them
Universities, like schools need funding and Universities, like schools are not given enough.
UK Universities provide excellence in learning and career opportunities. They also attract international interest and therefore trade for the U.K. The trade is not just from teaching students; it includes far wider trade for suppliers, shops, supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, rentals, teaching materials, books, publications from the students and friends and relatives who visit the students.
They like schools are the backbone of the U.K. and should automatically have more support from the Government than they are currently receiving.

Why is this important?
The issue of Universities cutting staff due to lack of funding, is a reflection of what is going on in schools.
The U.K. education system needs far more funding than is provided.
Cuts could be made in the area of Ofsted inspections that do nothing for the education establishments except provide an overall negative result. Ofsted inspections cause extreme stress to already overloaded teachers and staff. There is absolutely nothing good about an Ofsted inspection. The costs of providing Ofsted inspections would be better spent providing more funding for educational staff and resources.
