Upgrade the Grid Now to facilitate Rapid Expansion of Renewable Generation.

Upgrade the electricity national grid in the South West of England now to facilitate the continued growth of Renewable Generation in the South West essential to the UK meeting Climate Change commitments.
Lack of investment in the national grid system & grid restrictions known about for over twenty years supposedly linked to the Hinkley 'C' nuclear power station project are preventing further Renewable Generation in the South West of England.

Why is this important?

Experts tell us that the time left to act to prevent catestrophic climate change is very short. Yet the UK government, National Grid/Transco & Western Power Distribution are knowingly preventing further applications for Renewables generation in the South West of England, except for minor domestic installations, until grid upgrades associated with the ill fated Hinkley Point 'C' nuclear power station project are carried out, which currently has slipped to 2023 at best & may yet even be cancelled.
It is clearly evident that government policy, which supports expansion of nuclear power, is deliberately holding back further growth of Renewables in the south West in favour of nuclear power.
If we are to prevent a climate runaway situation we need rapid growth of clean, green sustainable power now. The nuclear industry, which world events show has a poor safety record, cannot respond in the required timescales.
The UK government needs to recognise that alongside demand management/reduction measures, rapid implementation of Renewable Generation is the only way of urgently tackling Climate Change. The South West of England has vast potential for all types of Renewable generation & it is essential that government policy measures are implemented urgently to require National Grid & Western Power to commence upgrade of the grid system in the South West specifically to facilitate rapid essential expansion of Renewable Energy.
