URGENT PLEA FOR FIXED SPEED CAMERAS ON WIGAN ROAD/DEANE ROAD IN BOLTON

We need your support

Residents on Deane/Wigan Road have raised the ongoing problem of dangerous drivers speeding on Wigan Road, specially, on the stretch of the road between Deane Church Lane and Bankfield Street. There have been too many serious accidents in recent years with far too many casualties. Over the last three months alone, three serious accidents occurred opposite Haslam Park.

This area is busy with pedestrians of all ages, as it is a location for Haslam Park Primary School, a popular playing area in the park, many shops and eateries and houses.

We need your urgent support with this petition to make sure Transport for Greater Manchester listens to our plea to put fixed speed cameras on Wigan Road. By doing this, we are making the road safer for our community, particularly our children and the elderly.

Our Local Labour Team, including myself, Cllr Abdul Atcha, and Mr Ismail Ibrahim have supported the cause and are working with the local community to ensure Wigan Road and Deane Road become a safe place to live.

Will you sign our petition and help make our area a safer place to be?

Thank you for your support.

Why is this important?

Having fixed speed cameras on Wigan Road that can actually catch those who are driving dangerously is important given how common this unacceptable behaviour has become.

This road is busy with high footfall of pedestrians, many of whom are children. There is also heavy traffic of school runs, lunch times as well as the commutes to and from work.

Drivers on the road are responsible for driving safely. Unfortunately, a minority have made Wigan Road and Deane Road a dangerous place to cross and drive on.

Even though we have traffic lights and zebra crossings, it just isn't enough! We need to implement speed cameras to keep the community safe and to catch those who are driving dangerously.
