To: MPs who have a broad 'republican' outlook. I am not sure which specific MPs that would be at the moment.

We need a National Anthem about the Country and its people, not just the Monarch.

I would like prominent public figure or MP, who is sympathetic to this view, to start a wider debate on this topic. I would also like to see a polling company, such as YouGov, conduct a survey to see how much public support there was for a revised National Anthem. This would then inform future debates one way or another.

Why is this important?

When we sing our National Anthem, we should be singing about why we want to support, defend and celebrate our country and its people. Many people who sing our National Anthem would want to feel proud about their country and may not necessarily support the Monarchy. In this situation, they are denied the opportunity to celebrate their country. If monarchists were to sing a revised National Anthem, it would not necessarily preclude the Monarch, so they would also be able to sing it with conviction.
