Where have all the NHS dentists gone?
I would like to know what the government is doing to rectify this situation and what help we can expect in the short term? I understand most dentists are trained and funded through the NHS. But once qualified it would appear that most elect to offer their services to the more lucrative private sector.
If this situation is allowed to continue there will obviously be a severe decline in the dental health of not just pensioners like myself, but all families unable afford private dental care.

Why is this important?
Not everyone can afford private dental care which leaves lots of people vulnerable. I have been at my current practice for about 10years. I have recently been advised that they will no longer be supporting NHS patients, but happy to accept my wife and I on a private basis. As pensioners we are not in a position financially, to be able to afford to pay for private treatment, especially in the current economic climate. So we set about trying to find a practice locally that would support NHS patients, but without success.
