Dedicated Youth Facilities in Wixams

Following the community session with L&G estates on 4th May 2022, 1st Wixams Scout Group and 1st/2nd Wixams Guiding Units would like to propose that one of the planned community buildings becomes dedicate Youth Activity Center.

Together we believe a dedicated Youth Activity Center could be a multi-use facility offering a range of cubs for young people within the village and become another community hub with a positive purpose.

Having a dedicated Activity Centre would give clubs the ability to expand with the village to meet the demands of current waiting lists. It would be a dedicated space for young people to get together in a safe environment, enable groups to store equipment securely and enable equipment to be shared between clubs bringing down club running costs and provide more young people with opportunities to get involved.

1st Wixams Scouting belongs to The Scout Association which holds the Policy, Organisation and Rules to be able to establish, run and maintain a Youth Activity Center. 1st Wixams also has a wealth of experience within the local Biggleswade District community who would step in and help set up the facility.

We believe that having community hub for young people rather than operating a traditional scout/guiding hut would create a financially sustainable community facility that could be used by other cubs who operate across Wixams or for community events such as birthday parties.
