• Fairer representation in Parliament.

  Voters are not fairly represented in parliament. Conservatives won 36% of the vote yet have 51% representation in parliament. The SNP won 4.7% of the vote and have 56 Mp’s; the Greens won 3.8% and have only one MP. UKIP Won votes that amount to 1/3 of the conservative vote and yet the conservatives have 331 seats to UKIP’S 1 seat. This is an affront to democracy.

  Proportional Representation

  Our political system no longer revolves around two parties. The first past the post system cannot work when we have a multi-party system. To give an example the SNP won 1.5 million votes and gained 56 seats; UKIP won 3 million votes and gained one seat. The current voting system is skewed and undemocratic.

  Change voting system in the UK to Proportional Representation

  ◾Moving to proportional representation (PR) in the UK may offer would give minority parties and independent candidates a better chance of winning seats in Parliament. ◾The current First Past the Post electoral system is considered unrepresentative, as candidates can be elected with a very small share of the votes while all other votes cast in the constituency are wasted. ◾PR ensures that the parties would have to appeal to their core supporters, rather than a small number of so called ‘swing voters’ in marginal seats. ◾It could be argued that PR delivers fairer treatment of minority parties and independent candidates ◾Under PR fewer votes are ‘wasted’ as more people’s preferences are taken into account ◾PR potentially offers greater and more-representative choice for voters. ◾PR may encourage turn-out and reduce apathy. ◾PR rarely produces an absolute majority for one party, however, it could be argued that PR ensures greater continuity of government and requires greater consensus in policy-making.

• Introduce proportional representation in the United Kingdom

  The 'first-past-the-post' system is archaic and outdated. It is an affront democracy. This was highlighted by the general election results of 2015. How can it be possible for 1.4 million to vote for the Scottish National Party and receive 56 seats in parliament, yet 3.7 million voted for the United Kingdom Independence Party and only received one seat of representation in parliament?

  Change our voting system where 12.6% of the votes get 1 seat in Parliament but 4.7% gets 56 seats!

  The British deserve a democratic system to elect our leaders. The current system has allowed a party whose stated aim is to separate Scotland from the United Kingdom to get a disproportionate number of seats at the 2015 election.

  Referendum on Proportional Representation

  Proportional Representation, whilst it has its issues would seem a fairer system to get fair representation of the population. We now have a government that represents less than 25% of the people yet they will be in power for the next 5 years. What we need is a fairer system reflecting the views of the diverse population.

  The outcome if the 2015 general election has shown how unfair the present system of first past the post is - the UKIP party received over 3 million votes and only got one seat in Government and yet the SNP got half that number of votes and got 56 seats!! How is that fair representation? The voices of a huge number of voters are not being heard. This has also affected all of the smaller parties - they are not being heard either.

  Achieve proportional representation

  The way people are voting now is being constantly manipulated to favour one party or scare them into voting to keep someone else out. We should have a free choice, to include minority groups into legislation, and not allow large parties all the power they want.

• Scrap "First Past the Post"

  The General Election of 2015 shocked me. The SNP claimed 56 seats and got 1,454,436 The Liberal Democrats claimed 8 seats and got 2,415,862 HOWEVER UKIP got 3,881,099 and yet only retained ONE SEAT. To me this doesn't seem fair at all. Many times today I have heard people thank goodness UKIP has only one seat as they are a "racist extreme party" or heard the odd person comment that they are glad Greens only have only seat as they are "a bunch of tree huggers whose policies don't make sense". If you don't agree with a political view of a party then you every right to express that as your opinion. What I don't find acceptable is the attempted smothering of many voters who have voted for these parties and won't hear the desired people in Parliament simply because their support wasn't concentrated in areas. Are we just supposed to ignore nearly 4 million people who have voted UKIP (more than SNP and Liberal Democrats put together may I add) because there votes weren't in the right places? What about the Green Party? 1,156,149 votes, 300,000 short of the SNP yet they only get one seat as well. We do have democracy in this country in this country and we are lucky to have it but now more needs to be done so everyone's opinion through out the country will be heard. Let's do something sooner rather than later. Of course this is only a rough idea and perhaps some may find faults in it but I suggest that the seats gained in Parliament is simply awarded by proportional representation. The local constituency vote should be separate to the national vote with the local consistency voting for a politician who will work in the local area and communicate with their own party about findings and suggestions for their area to bring up in Government but won't have anything to do with being a MP or voting in Parliament. LET THERE BE CHANGE SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.
