Save free one hour parking in Erewash car parks

Unfortunately, the proposal went ahead at the Council meeting last night, despite vigorous argument from Labour and Lib Dem Councillors. This petition and your comments, which constituted my introduction, made no dint on the Conservative Councillors who have the controlling majority. I urge you to write to them and express your disappointment that they have gone back on their manifesto pledges in removing free parking. The petition will be closed. The next election, perhaps if we cannot trust the current incumbents, we should not vote them back in.

The petition was handed in to Erewash Borough Council's democratic services team this morning via email for verification and checks prior to the deadline of 5pm today. On the 5th March I will attend the meeting to present it to council and to ask a question of them regarding the evidence they have so far been unable to provide to support their case for a change. If you wish to ask a question of council on the 5th March, you should submit yours today (24 Feb) via email to [email protected] before the 5pm deadline.

I am leaving the petition open until the meeting itself so I can refer to any increases at the meeting.

Now we're at over 400 signatures and I'm so grateful for the support so far for this petition. It's important we keep up momentum and show the councillors who wish to take away our free one hour parking that we are very much against it.

I have written personally to each Conservative councillor (not a political statement, they are simply the majority and the proposing members) asking them to side with us and vote against the party on the 5th March. Councillor James Dawson (Labour) pointed out that Kettering Borough Council have just brought in free parking - and ours are trying to get rid of it.
