Protect our green belt - Preserve Bishop's Wood Community!

We, the concerned residents of Bishop's Wood, are rallying together to safeguard the future of our beloved community. We are facing a critical moment as plans are underway for housing developments in our village. These developments threaten to irreversibly alter the character of our neighborhood and compromise the quality of life for current and future generations.

Why is this important?

Here’s why we believe it’s essential to halt any greenbelt development across the 3 SHELAA sites identified as 096, 097 and 099 (this maybe subject to change in the 2024 plan):

1. Preservation of Green Spaces: The proposed development encroaches upon precious green belt land, which serves as a vital haven for wildlife and contributes to the scenic beauty of our surroundings. We must protect these green spaces for the well-being of our community and the environment.

2. Traffic Congestion and Safety Concerns: Adding more residences to our area will inevitably lead to increased traffic congestion on already busy roads. This not only diminishes the safety of pedestrians and cyclists but also disrupts the peaceful flow of our community.

3. Pressure on Local Infrastructure: Our existing infrastructure, including schools, healthcare facilities, and public services, is already strained. The influx of new residents from the proposed development will place additional pressure on these essential services, potentially compromising their effectiveness and accessibility for all.

4. Loss of Agricultural Land: The proposed development threatens to encroach upon valuable agricultural land, which plays a crucial role in food production and maintaining the rural character of our community. Protecting agricultural land is vital for sustaining local economies and preserving our cultural heritage.

5. Community Voice and Transparency: We believe in the importance of community involvement and transparency in decision-making processes that affect our lives. The lack of meaningful consultation and transparent communication regarding the development in the area is concerning and undermines our trust in the planning process as well as going against the approved South Staffordshire Council housing plan.

6. Alternative Solutions: We urge the local council and developers to explore more suitable brownfield locations for housing developments. Brownfield sites offer a sustainable solution that revitalises derelict land while preserving our precious green spaces, as well as already allocated housing sites in the council's plan.

It’s time for us to take a stand and make our voices heard. By signing this petition, you’re joining your fellow neighbours in urging local authorities, and would be developers, to reconsider any large scale housing projects in the village. Together, we can send a powerful message that the well-being and future of our community are non-negotiable.

Let’s preserve the charm, tranquility, and vibrancy of our neighborhood for generations to come. Sign and share this petition widely with friends, family, and fellow community members. Together, we can make a difference!

Thank you for your support.
