STOP the 456 Bus Route on Firs Lane, Station Road and The Surrounding Area

This campaign has ended.

The council needs to take stock of what they are doing to Firs Lane AND the surrounding area, and how they are going to adversely affect it. The pollution and traffic to result is simply unacceptable.

They delivered letters at 10pm on a Friday night less than a week before Christmas and set a deadline of the 30th for the end of the consultation period. Only a handful of residents received the documentation.

A full, and thorough consultation needs to take place asking ALL residents for their input.
A further bus route - through Firs Lane, Station Road and the surrounding area should NOT take place.

Why is this important?

Without carrying out their due diligence they are ignoring the locals wishes.

On 25.10.19. A flyer from TFL together with a map advising of proposed bus route extension and giving a deadline for consultation of 6.12.19 was distributed. In this letter, under paragraph 11 it stated "subject to the outcome of this consultation about the proposed route LB of Enfield will consult locally on detailed proposals. THIS NEVER HAPPENED.

On 27 Apr 2020 TFL alleged to have consulted on proposals for a new bus route between Crews Hill and North Middlesex Hospital. They claimed to have received 513 responses. The residents of Firs Lane did NOT receive ANY information. This we feel is not transparent or representative of the local community.

Liz Rhodes - Healthy Streets Community Relations Officer at LB of Enfield titled it "Firs Lane and Surrounding Streets - QUIETER NEIGHBOURHOOD" stating that they are working WITH residents to make our streets quieter and safer. By introducing a range of measures like lower speed limits and encouraging drivers to show consideration to pedestrians we can help build respect for the areas where we live and where our children play.

HOW can this possibly be achieved with a BUS ROUTE going through the centre of the designated area, let alone the polluting exhaust fumes from increased traffic i.e., buses and traffic build-up from the 3 local schools? Delays will be inevitable, with stationary traffic releasing even more pollutants into the atmosphere, daily.
This will result in a minimum of 48 buses emitting extra pollutants for us and our children to inhale.

Additionally, the bus stops in Station Road near the junction with Hazelgreen Close would only be a 100m from the bus stop in Farm Road and it seems that a bus stop further apart would make more sense and as you will see from the letter the bus stop is raised like those along Green Lanes and will project 2 metres into the road. Unlike the design in the letter which seems to suggest that the bus will not cross the dotted lines in the middle of the road (!), the bus will block both sides of the road in Station Road and cause traffic to wait behind it.

We all need to pull together to ensure our Lane, Station Road and the surrounding streets remains safe and healthy. No one else knows our residential streets better than us as we live here and would like to continue doing so!
