A real roadmap to phase out animal testing

As you may know, the government published their roadmap on 11th November. Our concerns were that it would not contain concrete measures by which to hold them accountable - but I am delighted to report that the strategy does contain a number of excellent measures, as well as publicly reportable outcomes to enable accountability.

This is a huge milestone and the biggest progress on this issue ever made by a UK government, so it is genuinely something to celebrate. We would like it to go much further and will continue to work towards that end but we are very pleased that it is a really good start and lays the foundations for meaningful changes, which can be built upon and accelerated with input from groups, organisations and individuals like ourselves. Please read our full statement here: https://www.humanrelevantscience.org/replacing-animals-in-science/ Thank you for your support.

Create an ambitious and detailed roadmap to phase out animal testing, with specific targets and timelines.

Why is this important?

The government promised to work towards phasing out animal testing. Now they're creating a roadmap to make it happen, but it needs to be an ambitious and detailed plan, with clear milestones to drive progress that will benefit science and society.

Scientific and public opinion is on the side of phasing out animal testing. Other countries, like the US and those in the EU, are already making progress with their own detailed roadmaps.

A real roadmap will lead to better science and a stronger economy while phasing out animal testing. Let's seize this opportunity to make vital, positive change. It's time to bring UK science into the 21st century by focusing on human-relevant research.
