Act now: Subsidise water butts to fight rising water costs.

The pressure on households to cope with the cost of living is immense in this country. Also housepipe bans shouldn’t become the norm. Householders need to take control of their water usage as the water companies have little interest in promoting this. If the government was to subsidise water butts by say 10%. This would make them attractive for householders to buy.

Also if 500,000 households bought a 100 litre water butt. This would save
50,000 m3 of water.

Fill it 100 times and you have saved a small sized reservoir of water.

I would like you to work up a scheme with defra to do this and put it forward as a government bill.

Why is this important?

This campaign helps save money for householders. Reduces water demand from rivers and reservoirs. Helps prevent flooding. Also rainwater is better for plants. Subsidising water butts is a simple low cost policy which would generate immediate benefits.
