Afghan Refugees Welcome in Ely
Please sign to urge East Cambridgeshire District Council to offer to resettle at least two Afghan refugee families in the area and to write to the Prime Minister and Home Secretary indicating Ely’s support for the establishment of the refugee settlement programme for Afghans fleeing persecution.
Why is this important?
Like many others, we have watched in horror as the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan and thousands of ordinary people fled their homes. In 2015, we stepped up and offered safety to Syrian refugees fleeing ISIS. ECDC should do the same for Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban.
