Asylum for Russian soldiers surrendering in Ukraine

The war in Ukraine is in everyone’s minds and any way to speed up a Russian withdrawal should be taken. One option would be to offer any Russian soldiers who surrender in Ukraine immediate asylum in the UK. Second to the Ukrainian people, many of the Russian soldiers are also victims of Putin’s war. Stuck between a rock and a hard place this would give them a route to safety and potentially speed up the cessation of hostilities.

Why is this important?

This is important as stopping the war in Ukraine and the loss of innocent life is critical for peace in Europe. Offering asylum to surrendered Russian soldiers is uniquely both a peaceful act, will speed up stopping Russian aggression and shows to both the Ukrainian and Russian people that we care, and are prepared to make sacrifices.
