Ban employers asking job applicants for salary history and current earnings
According to the Young Women's Trust, 40% of HR managers have said they do not advertise salary details with job adverts. Often this means that salary will be based on the new employee's previous salary. But this perpetuates existing gender and ethnic pay gaps.
We call on the UK Government to ban the asking of salary history and current earnings in new job applications. Ending this practice is easy to implement and more importantly, it works. The United States leads on this front. Many states have already banned this practice. A study has shown a 5-6% increase in pay for people moving jobs within these states, with a larger increase for women (8-9%) and African-Americans (13-16%).

We can't really try and end gender and ethnic pay inequality without putting an end to this practice. Please help us put an end to this practice.
