Ban slug pellets that kill hedgehogs and pets

Reinstate ban for the sale and use of posionous slug pellets, containing metaldehyde, keep ban on methiocarb in the UK.

Why is this important?

These pellets kill hedgehogs, birds, amphibians and pets and poison children if eaten. Hedeghogs eat the slugs and die. Cats and dogs have been killed eating these pellets. Children can also be harmed if they eat the pellets. Hedgehogs are likely to be extinct within 15 years. Slug pellets only kill 10% of slugs and there are slug pellets available that only kill slugs. Hedgehogs are a natural predator of the slugs. We need to do all we can to prevent their extinction.

Natalie here again, SUCCESS! It Back in December Michael Gove agreed to ban Metaldehyde from spring 2020! It seems he listened! Thankyou to all who helped with this crucial campaign. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/restrictions-on-the-use-of-metaldehyde-to-protect-wildlife

My MP tabled a written parliamentary question and 2 government agencies are doing a scientific assessment of the eff ct on birds and mammals. progress! If you have a personal story of the bad effects of these pellets on animals and birds please email your MP with it and ask him/her to pass it on to Health and Safety executive and UK Expert Committee on Pesticides referencing WPQ 133334 Department for the Environment, Fisheries and Rural Affairs.

Tests have been done. It kills wildlife. Autopsies are costly and uneccasary

I JUST FOUND THIS ON ANGLIAN WATERS WEBSITE. TO BE CLEAR METALDEHYDE IS THE SLUG KILLER THAT KILLS WILDLIFE.
The regulatory level of Metaldehyde stipulated by the European Union’s Water Framework Directive is 0.1 micrograms per litre (or parts per billion) in treated water. This is the same as one drop in an Olympic sized swimming pool. Levels in reservoirs in our region regularly exceed this and removing it is not currently possible.

Methiocarb (mostly used commercially) is banned by the EU. Hope this does not change. I've done all I can to try and get methaldehyde banned. If anyone wants to try and take it further, get in touch.

Written to DEFRA To ask what we need do to get these banned. Getting a high number of autopsysies to prove that these pellets kill animals is not possible.

Sending lots of emails requesting help regarding proof and contacted my Mp too. Finding other research into metaldehyde in the water supply but none on animals, wildlife. Some national agencies do not reply. A long hard struggle.
