Provide better pay for care workers
Why is this important?
We call on the Government to ensure all care workers receive better pay.
The pandemic has shown just how much we rely on our nation's 1.52m care workers and the risks they take to do their job. It has provided a focus on the incredible work they undertake in supporting vulnerable people to the highest of standards.
But care workers aren't given the rate of pay that they deserve - despite them literally placing their lives at risk to fulfil their role to the people they support, their employer and to society. Few care workers get above the National Living Wage of £8.72 per hour.
The Government must provide additional funding to local authorities, to pass on to the care providers who employ social care workers. Local authorities currently do not provide enough funding to social care providers to enable them to pay care workers what they deserve.
We are a coalition of social care organisations who want to pay our amazing staff a minimum of the Real Living Wage of £9.50 per hour (£10.85 in London), which has been calculated as the minimum salary people need to live on. We are www.betterpay4socialcare.org
Please sign and share this petition. Let's show Government how much we want to see care workers receive the pay they deserve for all that they do.
How it will be delivered
We will deliver the petition to Downing Street
