Broadwalk/Redcatch Quarter Development

We the undersigned call for Bristol City Council to work closely with the new developers of Broadwalk Shopping Centre/Redcatch Quarter and ward councillors to speed much needed investment in our town centre. We support the ambition for the many new shops and for a sizeable number of new flats that, as well as tackling housing needs locally, will provide customers for new and existing businesses in Knowle. We support the new mainstream supermarket and the range of community facilities, including the library and new cinema/theatre. We support the mix of retirement living; key worker housing; starter homes; social housing for rent; build to rent, and some for open market sale. This must be a low car ownership scheme with a levy put on the developers to provide parking protection for the surrounding area. We demand that flats are constructed to a high standard both environmentally and in terms of comfort and that the development sets new high standards for Bristol.

Why is this important?

The shopping centre is obsolete and unviable and will be demolished and redeveloped. We want to ensure the development includes a viable neighbourhood town centre with a range of local traders, cafes, library/community space, cinema/theatre, ensuring a vibrant sustainable hub for the whole community, and continued employment for local people. New accommodation will provide future customers to ensure viability.
