Why is this important?
Legal and Moral Responsibility:
Failure to divest may implicate the Council in violations of international law and complicity in crimes against humanity, as established by the International Court.
Moreover, Buckinghamshire Council is already involved by virtue of its investments in companies enabling violations of international law. By refusing to allow an e-petition on their own council platform, the Council is side-lining urgent community voices demanding action.
