Cameron as 1st yr Student Nurse - 24hrs

Mr. Cameron,

In light of your lastest attack on the NHS in order to slice, dice & sell to your buddies you declared "We have said that nurses should spend some time when they are training as healthcare assistants in the hospital, really making sure that they are focused on the caring and the quality, and some of the quite mundane tasks that are absolutely vital to get right in hospital''. First year training as a student nurse is spent pretty much as a HCA, I work part time in a residential home making my working hrs week between 42-72 hrs of providing 'care' weekly. I petition you to spend one shift 12.5hrs on a NHS ward as a first year student nurse - reflect if you have spent 'time' with your patients - I spend 12hrs with mine - I know everything from their childhood sweethearts, what constipate, when the carrots need to be picked out of the mixed veg, how many times they wish to use the toilet without a 30 second waite all of which we provide, with a smile, a hug, and a laugh. My feet burn when I get home not having time to take proper 'care' of myself I dash to the toilet, peel my uniform off, boil wash it for my next 12hr shift (of which my bursary amounts to £2pr hr pay) & attempt to make two nutritious and delicious meals for the following days battle-ground (I follow the mantra keep food's clean and train mean to keep energy levels high - expect for accepting melted chocolate gifts out of the palms of patients hands). I love my job - don't blame us if you are incompetent at yours. We're Professionals.

Why is this important?

To stop marginalising healthcares future workforce, to stop 'blaming' groups of hard workers in the NHS for government cut backs - you cut staff = decressed level of care. It's that simple Mr Cameron, the smaller work force work harder, for less pay (you capped that) and you still insist on blame and interfering with our training - how are you qualified to make such statement and change to a profession that will far out live that of your own [fact]. In response to your snide, unfounded & what I'm pretty sure is borderline liable little comment - the least you can offer is one 12.5 hour shit in a NHS hospital, I'll even boil my uniform for you.
