Campaign to save the Camp public house St Albans

UPDATE 15/07/15: We Won! Last week the council accepted the application and the pub has been listed as an Asset of Community Value! The first of its kind in St Albans

I would like to thank all those who signed and helped get some protection for this community local. This is only the first step on what could be a long fight with the developers who now own the Camp to get the pub re-opened.

Thank you again for your support.

The demonstration 9th January was a success and got us some much needed publicity. The Review of the ACV took place on 25th January and the result should be announced second week of February.

It is now crucial that we get as many objections as possible lodged with St Albans Council before the closing date 4th February. Planning application 5/2015/3468. Tell the council and the developers "we don't want 25 Apartments we want our pub back".

Why is this important?

The Camp is the epitome of your friendly local pub and has been serving the city of St Albans for over 100 years. With locally brewed real ales, and great value pub food – our local pub is at the heart of the community. The pub is also the social hub of the area, providing local entertainment including regular quiz and karaoke nights, evening events to raise money for local charities and hosting live televised sporting events.
Despite being the centre of the community, soon locals in St Albans will be left without their local pub.
The pub is due to close on 15th May and we desperately need your help to save it. The closure of the Camp public house demonstrates how vulnerable communities are to speculative and aggressive development tactics.
An application to register the Camp as an Asset of Community Value has now been submitted to St Albans City Council. With the closure of the Camp imminent, we need you to help us urge the Council to accept the application to list the pub immediately.
This will ensure planning permission is required for the pub to be demolished or converted to any other use. The listing also gives the community an opportunity to potentially come together to form a co-operative group to buy and run our local pub.

Please sign this petition and urge the City Council to accept the nomination to ensure the pub continues to be part of our local community.

Dear Supporters
Howarth Homes, the developers who own the Camp, have lodged a planning application 5/2015/3468 to demolish the pub and build 25 apartments on the site. It is crucial that we get as many objections as possible sent in to Sarah Ashton the case officer at St Albans City & District Council before the closing date of 4th February.
You can oppose the planning application here:
http://planning.stalbans.gov.uk/Planning/lg/GFPlanningSearch.page
Anthony Rowlands, the ward Councillor, has “called in” the planning application so a full public planning meeting will be held, date to be set.
The Review of the ACV Asset of Community Value called by Howarth Homes took place on Monday 25th January. The result will be given in the week starting 8th February
Please put in your objection and thank you for your continued support.

Cheers Steve

Firstly thank you to all who turned out for the demonstration on Saturday even though the weather was against us. I have now found out that Howarth Homes the developers who now own the Camp put in a planning application in December to demolish the pub and build 25 apartments on the site. It is vital that as many people as possible put in objections before the closing date of 20th January. The Application Reference number is 5/2015/3468 Planning Portal Reference is 4667404. Please ask any other supporters to get their objections in as soon as possible. If we do not get a large number of objections the pub will be lost please make the effort to save your local.
