Cardinal Vincent Nichols Must Resign

In light of the IICSA's damning report on Cardinal Vincent Nichols and his failure in handling clerical sex abuse within the Catholic Church, I am calling on Catholics across England and Wales to mobilise, and lobby for Cardinal Vincent Nichols to resign.

Why is this important?

The sex abuse scandals within the Catholic Church has caused severe damage to its reputation. What is worse is the way they have been handled by the authorities in the Church. Sex abuse is something which causes severe trauma for survivors for the rest of their lives, but the cover ups only add to the trauma. As the leader of the Catholic Church of England and Wales, the IICSA report has shown that Cardinal Nichols has failed in his leadership to deal with clerical abuse. Survivors are now calling for him to resign. It is important, as Christians, to first and foremost, seek justice and healing for survivors, and put that above the reputation of the Church.

There has been a new report over the last couple of weeks. Fr Joseph Quigley was a priest in the Archdiocese of Birmingham, who knew about his abuse. This was in 2008, when Cardinal Vincent was head of the diocese. Instead of reporting him to the police, he was sent to the US for therapy for 6 months, and then allowed back into schools upon his return.

Cardinal Vincent has shown he cannot be trusted with the protection of children, and he needs to resign. I urge you to please sign and share. If you are still a practising Catholic, I also encourage you to start discussions with your fellow parishioners and priests, and encourage them to take action too.
