Change the name of Rheumatoid Arthritis to Rheumatoid Disease
Why is this important?
Rheumatoid Arthritis isn’t like old age arthritis or any other arthritis it is a serious disease and people just assume when you tell them arthritis that you have a bit of a stiff joint etc I find when people tell me oh I have arthritis too it’s offensive as they have a stiff joint I can’t even get out of bed most days and the only way to change this is to move forward with a new name for this terrible disease
The fact is
Just want to point out for the millionth time I DO NOT HAVE ARTHRITIS LIKE AN OLD PERSON
RHEUMATOID IS A DISEASE IT CRIPPLES YOU AND IS NOTHING LIKE OSTEOARTHRITIS
RA is an autoimmune disease. Your immune system is supposed to attack foreigners in your body, like bacteria and viruses, by creating inflammation. In an autoimmune disease, the immune system mistakenly sends inflammation to your own healthy tissue. The immune system creates a lot of inflammation that is sent to your joints causing joint pain and swelling. If the inflammation remains present for a long period of time, it can cause damage to the joint. This damage typically cannot be reversed once it occurs. The cause of RA is not known. There is evidence that autoimmune conditions run in families. For instance, certain genes that you are born with may make you more likely to get RA. The disease is very debilitating and can be agony if untreated or the disease is not under control, some people say things like they have a touch of rheumatism this is nonsense you don’t get a touch of rheumatism you either have the disease or you don’t and if you don’t then you have a different type of arthritis.
